The Xi’an Grand Theater is a cultural center at the heart of the Xi’an High-tech Zone Silk Road Science City. This neighborhood is located to the south-west of the historic city center and will house more than a half million residents along a suburban metro line. The center includes several cultural venues, including the concert hall, a theater, a chamber hall, a hotel, an exhibition gallery, and a public park.

The concert hall seats 1,300 and has a sage for a full-sized orchestra. The hall has a slightly asymmetric plan and features angular terrace and boundary walls. A single balcony encircles the room with audience. A glass reflector was chosen over stage to showcase an elaborate wooden trellis on the ceiling, continuing a motif from the lobby and facade. The walls of the concert hall are constructed from cast-in-place concrete with a unique bamboo texture to scatter sound reflections. To achieve the pattern, workers arrayed bamboo slices of various widths to create a form liner for the poured concrete. The same method is used in several of the lobby and exterior spaces as well, giving a cohesive feel to the complex.

The hall held a soft opening in early 2025, and its grand opening on October 27th, 2025 by the Mariinsky Orchestra under Maestro Valery Gergiev. The Xi’an Symphony Orchestra will be the resident ensemble and split their time between the new hall and their existing hall in the historic center of Xi’an.
