Shinsegae Namsan was built as a facility for internal trainings and corporate functions for the Shinsegae group, one of the largest department store brands in Korea. The Trinity Hall is used for both internal and public concerts, recording sessions, lectures, and events such as banquets and weddings.
Two different stage configurations are programmed depending on the necessary depth needed for the musicians. A system of mechanical audience seats can transform the space from a raked auditorium for 470 seats in the narrow stage condition into an empty flat floored event space, with or without seats.
In order to prevent any acoustical issues caused by the overall parallel walls, large convex bumps were introduced to form the acoustical envelope. To hide these GFRG panels, the side walls of the auditorium feature a striking installation of aluminum fins designed by D’Art: the Specialist Art Company. The fins create a colorful surface with floral relief while preserving acoustical transparency.
The floating ceiling panels with integrated lights are similarly acoustically transparent, hiding convex shaping which forms the acoustical ceiling.
